Welcome to the New York Ladies GAA

Féile 2009

Féile Peile na nOg is a national festival of football for boys and girls under 14 years of age and is based on the GAA club unit. Féile Peile na nOg is sponsored by Coca-Cola Bottlers (Ire) Ltd. and they have been sponsors since 1971. It is the longest running sponsorship in the GAA or of any other sporting event in Ireland or even in Europe. Since 1971 over 1 million boys and girls have participated in this great festival.

Each year some 30,000 boys and girls take part in this festival in all 32 counties along with teams from the UK, Europe and the USA. When the preliminary competition is completed in each county the winning club then represents their County at the Féile festival. The winning club then travels to the host County, Kildare 2009, where they are hosted by one of the clubs from within that County. This year the Ballymore Eustace GAA Club will host the New York 2009 Féile Panel.

Féile Peile na nOg places great emphasis and importance on proper participation, presentation, punctuality and sportsmanship. Feile involves the whole community, families, clubs, schools, social and cultural groups, civic and religious authorities. It is recognized by the GAA as a major festival of great importance for the promotion of football among the youth in each of our communities.

Féile Peile na nOg helps to bond communities, forge friendships, provide educational opportunities and unearth new leaders.

2006 Féile (Wicklow)
NEW YORK LADIES

In 2006 New York entered its first Féile competition which was held in Co., Wicklow. It proved a tremendous success with the New York team playing outstanding football. We were hosted that year by Arklow Geraldines Ballymoney GAC and had a very pleasant stay at the Arklow Bay Hotel during our visit. The New York team made it to the semi-finals of their group but was overcome by the eventual group winners from Armagh. The trip was a tremendous success and guaranteed that New York Ladies were in it for the long haul.

2007 Féile (Leitrim)
NEW YORK LADIES

2007 saw the panel head to "Lovely Leitrim" and hosted by Sean O'Heslin’s GFC of Ballinamore. New York Ladies went from strength to strength in the competition that year and were Division 4 finalists against, the home club our Chairperson Nollaig Cleary, Kinawley of Co., Fermanagh. New York had a huge support with host club Sean O'Heslin's cheering them every step of the way. However, it was not to be their day as Kinawley took the laurels. The Kinawley club visited with the New York team after that game and told them to keep their chins up as it took them 15 years to get that far.

2008 Féile (Cavan)
NEW YORK LADIES

In 2008 the New York Féile panel was hosted by Belturbet in Co., Cavan and yet again was met by very gracious hosts. The New York panel was probably at it's strongest since it began to compete in Féile, as most of the panel had been there the previous two years. They booked a spot, yet again, in the Division 4 final against St. Paul's of Antrim. Unfortunately it was not their year but they reveled in the support that was given them, apart from their own families and friends who had traveled with them, by the Sean O'Heslin's GFC who were their hosts the previous year. It goes to show what a wonderful competition this is and that it does indeed forge new friendships — ones that will carry through the years.

2009 Féile (Kildare)
NEW YORK LADIES

We wish the New York 2009 Féile panel along with their manager, Kieran Traynor and selectors Mary T. O'Rourke and Frankie Tracey, every success this year as they near the end of preparations for Féile Kildare. We also commend Tour Chairpersons Bea & Mike Ruane who have done a fantastic job in their 'inaugural' organization of this trip.

We wish every success to Kildare on this their 3rd Féile and look forward to Féile 2010, which will be hosted by Co., Derry.
