Welcome to the New York Ladies GAA

Player Information

New York welcomes players of all skill levels. All clubs welcome new players. Players must be resident of the Tri-State area by June 30th and must be registered to play with a club by then. The New York County Board is affiliated with Cumann Peil Gael Na mBan in Ireland so players coming from clubs in Ireland are required to transfer. Players are required to adhere to transfer rules set by both New York Ladies County Board and Cumann Peil Gael Na mBan.

TRANSFER RULES

All transfer applications must be made in the Official Transfer form. It must be completed in duplicate, properly signed and sent to the relevant secretary. A player who leaves a county permanently and who wishes to become involved in the playing activities of another county must:

(a)Obtain sanction from Provincial Council if her intended participation is with another county within the same province.

(b)Obtain sanction from Central Council if her intended participation is with a county outside her former Province.

A transfer becomes effective as soon as it is sanctioned by the appropriate authority. A transfer requiring Central Council sanction and which has been approved by Club and County Committees may be approved by the National Secretary subject to:

(a) A Central Council Meeting not being held within 4 weeks of receipt.

(b) Ratification at the next Central Council Meeting.

INTER CLUB

A player who wishes to leave one club to join another in the same county must apply to the County Committee for a transfer. This also applies to players leaving a disbanded club. (The New York deadline for inter club transfers is March 31st).

The County Committee shall have power to refuse or grant such transfers taking into account the best interests of the Association. A player seeking an inter-Club transfer outside the County she last played in must seek her release from her former club by completing the transfer form.

The form must then be signed by her former Club and County Secretaries who should then forward it to the County Secretary to whom she is transferring. (The New York deadline for inter club transfers is March 31st).

If the player is residing in the parish of the Club to which she is transferring or if she is returned to her home Club the county secretary may sign the transfer form and forward it to the Provincial or National Secretary as outlined in Rule 279.

If the player is not residing in the parish of the club to which she is transferring, of if she is not returning to her home Club the transfer must be:

(a) Discussed and cleared by a County Committee meeting.

(b) The transfer form endorsed to that effect, signed by the County Secretary and

(c) Forwarded to the provincial or National Secretary as outlined in Rule 279.

Where a player's former Club or County Secretary refuses to sign the transfer form, the player should contact the Provincial or National Secretary as appropriate.

When the transfer has been sanctioned one copy will be returned to the applicant, who shall present it to the club which she wishes to transfer to. The Club shall register the player in the usual manner.

When a player is transferred to a Club in another County on or after 1st September in any year, she shall not be eligible to take part in the All-Ireland Club Championship of that year unless she has played previously with the Club to which she has been transferred.

INTER COUNTY

The procedure to be followed to obtain an Inter County transfer is:

(a) She must seek her release from her former County Secretary by completing the transfer form.

(b) The Secretary shall sign it and forward it to the Provincial or National Secretary as outlined at Rule 279.

Where football is no longer played officially in the player's former County, she should forward the completed transfer directly to the Provincial or National Secretary as appropriate.

An Inter County transfer becomes effective as soon as it is sanctioned by the appropriate authority. The appropriate Secretary shall sign the transfer form and return one copy to the applicant, on receipt of same the applicant should present it to her County Secretary.

In all applications for transfers, the status of the player shall be specified and also the date of the last competitive match in which she played. Schools and College competitions are exempted.

A player who has commenced a competition in one County shall be eligible to finish that competition for her Club or County even though she subsequently left that Club or County and is playing legally with another Club or County, provided that her transfer is in order.

A player cannot play for two different Counties in the same year’s competition.

Players who intend to play in New York during the summer must complete an official sanction form and have it signed by the Club, County and National Secretaries. This sanction shall permit the players to play from April 1st to September 30th and shall not be granted later than June 30th in any year. These players may play with their home club or county in their respective championships. New York restricts the number of sanctions a club can receive with most clubs eligible to have four sanctioned players and the championship finalists eligible for two.
