The New York Ladies GAA will hold their Eighteenth Annual Dinner Dance on Saturday, November 14th in The Royal Regency Hotel, 160 Tuckahoe Rd, Yonkers NY. This year's Guest of Honor will be Seamus Dooley. Seamus is a native of Co. Monaghan and past chairperson of the NY GAA. He has been involved with Cumann Peil Gael Na mBan since the mid 1990's and has been a generous benefactor of his time with both the Senior Ladies and the Gaelic4Girls Underage program.
This year's Colette Horkan Memorial awardee will be Mary Tierney, current Registrar of New York Ladies Junior Board/Gaelic4Girls. Colette Horkan was a former player and member of the Mayo ladies and later Fermanagh Ladies teams prior to her untimely death after a brave battle with cancer. Mary is a native New Yorker and has worked tirelessly with the Gaelic4Girls program since its inception with both her daughters, Stephanie and Brianna, playing with St. Brigid's LGFC of New York and Stephanie who is also a member and player with NaFianna LGFC of New York.
Mary comes from a very active GAA family — The Traynor's — and rarely misses a game at Gaelic Park. Mary is also involved with the Celtic's GFC with whom her son Sean plays.
Our Player of the Year award goes to Aine O'Dwyer of Na Fianna., a native of Co. Tipperary. In her 1st playing season with Na Fianna she was central to their success this year.
On the night we will also recognize our Sean Faherty Championship winners - Na Fianna and the Annie Kearney Cup winners - Kerry/Donegal and the Peter Connaughton Cup winners - Cavan.
This year we will also have the 2009 Feile team attending our dance. We commend them on a great tournament.
